Title: OA Tapawingo lodge flap
Year: 1960's
Description: This is the original lodge flap. It did not have a border on it both because patches did not use one pack at that time and it also was a deliberate part of the legend of the patch that it would not have one.

Description: This is a second run of the same flap. The only way to tell it was not the original was that the original had a blue thread running across the top on the edge. This second run did not.

Title: Polar Bear Camporee
Year: 1964
Description: The Western Reserve Council used to be comprised of three geographic districts - East, West, and South. Each district held it's own camporees and events such as this.

Title: Chickagami Summer Camp Patch
Year: 1950's -1960's
Description: This was used for many years as the standard camp patch. You would get one your first year and then each year thereafter you would get a service pin to put over the 1. In the late 60's and early 70's almost every Scout in the Council wore this as their optional patch on their uniform. Older patches from the 50's and 60's had little or no border on them.

Year: ????
Description: An attempt was made by the Council Camping committee to revive the tradion of the old Chickagami Summer Camp Patch tradition. Everyone got this their first year but the second year instead of giving out the pins - the council just gave out the patch again.

Description: This is a later run of the patch when it was still being used in the late 60's. Patch technology had changed and this newer run had a more pronounced border.

Year: 1970
Description: This was the fall camporee held by the East District. The West and South Districts would also have held events that fall. All three were likely held at Camp Chickagami.

Year: 1971
Description: Districts and Scouting were going strong in the early 70's. Even this relatively small council had 3 districts, thus 3 camporees and Camp Chickagami was filled with scouts on 3 separate weekends.

Title: Tecumseh District Fall Activity Patch
Year: 1973
Description: The East, South, and West Districts were renamed Tecumseh, Sequoyah, and Pioneer Districts, respectively. They continued to hold individual district camporees like this First Aid / Safety themed event.

Year: 1974
Description: District camporees varied between Spring and Fall. Most were held at Chickagami, but for variety some were held in local community parks around Trumbull County.

Year: Late 70's
Description: The infamous green raccoon version. When the second run was finally depleted, the reorder was messed up and the raccoon came back green. There was also a border on the patch that was not requested, but all patches now came with them.

Title: 1997 OA Conclave Patch
Year: 1977
Description: The Order of the Arrow held an annual conclave for all lodges in the section. This was Tapawingo's turn to host and it was held at Camp Chickagami. Scouts from all over Northeast Ohio converged for this first weekend in May event.

Title: Winterspiel Camporee
Year: 1978
Description: Toward the end of the 1970's District attendance was falling off and giving way to larger Council-wide events. This first weekend winter event held in February of 1978 featured a free week of summer camp at Chickagami for an entire patrol as a first prize, a fully stocked patrol box for second place, and a complete ax yard for a third place prize.

Description: The tendency was now toward Council events instead of district ones. The decline in numbers was beginning to show.

Title: Chickagami Early Bird Patch
Year: 1978
Description: Mr. Howard Hurlbert of Kinsman silk screened this map of the camp as an incentive to sign up for summer camp early. The concept was only used for one year, although it was relatively successful. Much of his work would be seen in the late 70's and early 80's in the form of silk screened t-shirts, neckerchiefs, and iron-on transfers as promotional materials and Chickgami Staff insignia. Their family business became the major marketing arm for camp and for Scouting with most of it being donated.

Title: Klondike Derby
Year: 1979
Description: The term 'Klondike Derby' returned to the now annual Winter Events. The concept of a Klondike Derby was that Patrols would lash together sleds and use then to transport their gear from event to event. The day would climax in a massive sled race.

Description: Frustrated with the previous green raccoon, the order went in saying raccoons are not green. So this one came back brown.

Description: Council Camporees were held almost every year in either the spring or the fall.

Description: Winter Events had become the only event held annually. Other camporees rotated spring or fall. So each year a different theme was developed such as this handicapped awareness theme. Events were done blindfolded, etc. to give Scouts an appreciation for what it was like to have a handicap.

Description: Before there were lodge flaps, Tapawingo Lodge had a patch like this that hung from the pocket except it did not have a fleur-de-lis. This reproduction was made as a fundraiser for the new lodge building.

Description: Patrol competions this year took on theme of survival. There were typically 6-10 events each year which were a mixture of demonstrating Scouting skills or just fun and teamwork.

Description: The leather pocket hanger proved a good way to recruit help to staff the events. With only a few dozen of these produced as opposed to several hundred of the event patches, volunteers were easy to find.

Description: Tapawingo Lodge again used Chickagami to host the OA Conclave. It was at this event that the new OA Building, Espan Lodge, was dedicated.

Title: Frontier Festival
Year: 1985
Description: This Fall Camporee was featured on the cover of Scouting Magazine. Scouts camped in a horseshoe around the parade field while the center held two rows of re-enactors both pioneer and native american. There were hayrides, a war canoe, two special campfires, and an ox roast that served over 600 in less than 45 minutes. Tickets were sold to the public and local radio personality, Boots Bell broadcast his show from the camp.

Description: The 75th anniversary of Scouting was celebrated throughout the country with this diamond 75 logo. It was incorporated into camporee patches, summer camps, etc.

Description: By now the lodge was considering itself cursed that it could never get the raccoon right again. Somebody felt that raccoons are typically more gray placed this order and it was nicknamed the white raccoon version. The redeeming factor was that the feathers on this patch more closely resembled the feathers spoken of in the legend of the flap. There are actually two different kinds.

Description: This annual Boy Scout event had been going on for a decade now and was firmly established every January. It was followed by several weekends in February of Cub events where the numbers were much greater.

Description: The Order of the Arrow held Beaver Days from 1987-1995 each April. One year they even included a patch.

Description: This version got the raccon back to a respectable color. The feathers were looking good, but the heavy border pretty much locked in the coup stick that was supposed to make up the top border of the origninal patch and over the years it had become more of a decorative bar.
